How Do You Play an Eardrum?

Recently, I heard someone use the word eardrum, and I realized I didn’t know if it was one or two words.

I looked it up, hoping it was two words so I could make jokes about banging the drum with my ear (kind of like the old joke about playing the piano by ear and banging your ear on the piano keys). Or I could joke about a drum shaped like an ear that makes a waxy sound.

Alas, it’s one word that means “tympanic membrane.”

Oh well. Guess I’ll go back to regular drums.

Until next time! Use the right words!
