It’s Not “Birth Control”

Our language is filled with terms that make no sense. If you think about it, a foul pole in baseball really is a fair pole because if the ball hits it, it’s a home run, which can only happen with a fair ball. Similarly, any sport or game that has sudden death really has sudden victory because no one dies when some person or team wins.

As I’ve written before, life insurance really is death insurance because it only pays upon someone’s death.

Here’s another one: Birth control. If you think about it, you take or use a method not to control birth but to control pregnancy. The pill, a condom, an IUD and all the others should really be called pregnancy control.

Anyone who has given birth knows that you can’t control birth. It’s going to happen when it’s going to happen.

Until next time! Use the right words!
