Coaches Say the Funniest Things, Part 2

This past weekend, as I umpired a softball game, the catcher wanted to call her own pitches — that is, signal the pitcher what pitch to throw instead of getting the signal from the coach.

It turned out the catcher was the coach’s daughter, which perhaps was why he gave her permission. But he said, “I’ll let you, but you’re on a short leash.”

I muttered, “I don’t see a leash on you.” The catcher giggled.
