Careful Where You Put the “Ugly”

I love game shows. When I was a kid home sick from school, “Gambit,” “Whew!” “The Price is Right,” “Family Feud,” “The Gong Show,” “Match Game,” “Let’s Make a Deal,” “Name That Tune,” “Tattletales” “Password,” “Super Password,” “The Newlywed Game,” “Tic Tac Dough” and “The $25,000 Pyramid” were on my watch list.

As an adult, and thanks to the Internet, I can watch reruns or these shows, or I can watch clips.

One clip recently caught my attention: One person gave this clue: “These are the ugly sandals that lesbians wear.” The other person immediately responded, “Birkenstocks,” as if that was so obviously the answer.

This clip caught my eye because my heterosexual daughter wants a pair of Birkenstocks. We found a store during our recent trip to Las Vegas. As we drove there, I repeated the clip but my daughter didn’t hear me, so my wife repeated what I said.

Except she said the clue was, “These are the sandals ugly lesbians wear.”

Until next time! Use the right words!

It’s here! My début book, “If You Experience Death, Please Call: And Other Fatal Mistakes We Make With Language” is out and available on Amazon. Order now for just $14.95. Contact me on my website to reserve your copy or Order here.
