Happy New Years? In Time’s Square?

At this time of year (the last day), my thoughts wander to familiar places: my brother (his birthday is today), New York City and who will wish me more than one happy new year.

It seems almost inevitable that somebody is going to tell me, “Happy New Years.” This year, it was the young kid working the entry desk at my gym.

“Happy New Years!” he told me. I responded, “I’m only celebrating one new year tonight.”

I always go to the same place on Dec. 31: a friend’s house — about 2,800 miles from where the ball drops.

That’s Times Square, not Time’s Square. The New York Times used to have offices there. Time magazine’s offices are in Rockefeller Center, seven blocks up and two blocks to the right.

Until next time! Use the right words!

It’s here! My début book, “If You Experience Death, Please Call: And Other Fatal Mistakes We Make With Language” is out and available on Amazon. Order now for just $14.95. Contact me on my website to reserve your copy or Order here.
